Day 08- A moment you felt most satisfied with your...
This time last year, living in halls with a set of people I felt comfortable with. Being able to just walk down the corridor knowing there was always a friendly face, and parties, and new people to meet. Also, exploring London whenever I felt like it, and getting firsts at uni. I think it was the first time in my life my family didn’t have to worry about me.

Day 07- Your zodiac sign and if you think it fits...
I am a Virgo. I am meticulous, a perfectionist with obsessive tendencies, which seem to align with the star sign, but I like spontaneity and am the messiest person ever. I try my best to tidy up, but then I do a double-take and find everything in haphazard piles again. I am pragmatic, like the starsign, but don’t have an ordered mind. I’ve heard that astrologers believe that the...

Day 05- A time you thought about ending your own...
I’ve tried to end my life a few times. It’s harder than I imagined- instincts you didn’t know you had kick in and the body’s mechanisms seem to fight against you. Blood clots, limbs kick, or people find you in time. Over the past year something has changed- I sometimes desperately want to die, but feel an incredible guilt which I didn’t before. My family has...

Day 04- Your views on religion
I’d like to be able to say I’m an athiest, just for simplicity’s sake, but I’ve seen a few things which I can’t explain using science. They might have a purely psychological explanation, maybe even just that I like to think there is some mystery beyond reality. But I am not a religious person.
I was very interested in it when I was a child, and would empty the...

Day 03- Your views on drugs and alcohol
Although I adknowledge that they can cause untold misery, I’m a libertarian. I believe in John Stuart Mill’s idea that personal freedom is integral as long as it does not affect others. I think the media causes a lot of unnecessary hysteria about drugs, particularly in the case of cannabis, hallucinogens and ecstasy, when many scientists have admitted that the risks are overblown,...
Day 02- Where you'd like to be in ten years
I hope for the freaks and weirdos revolutionary uprising, and we’ll live in a treehouse with nice curtains and shit.

Day 01- Your current relationship. If single,...
Single. Pretty atrocious at relationships. I get scared of commitment and the notion of belonging to someone else. Also, I like my own space, and most of my boyfriends have felt uncomfortable about it. Unfortunately, it is very rare for me to feel attracted to someone, but I would like to try dating again. I’d like a tall, weird Frenchman please.

My experiment in coming off anti-depressants went sadly wrong. I’m only just beginning to allow myself to think about it. I’m so sad that it failed, a waste of four months, but I suppose at least I know again now what my limits are. Thinking back, I was so desperate to live ‘normally’ without the aid of medication that I began to influence myself that perhaps drugs did...

Existential Depression in Gifted Individuals
tamburina:
It has been my experience that gifted and talented persons are more likely to experience a type of depression referred to as existential depression. Although an episode of existential depression may be precipitated in anyone by a major loss or the threat of a loss which highlights the transient nature of life, persons of higher intellectual ability are more prone to experience...

Psilocybin
A clinical trial in the UK, headed by Dr. David Nutt has been investigating the effects of psilocybin (the chemical in magic mushrooms) on areas of the brain associated with mental illness.
“Our aim was to identify the precise areas inside the brain where the drug is active. We thought when we started that psilocybin would activate different parts of the brain. But we haven’t found...
